What's moving at the lab, newest first.

  1. We're back, and the lab has changed

    The lab closed for ten days so we could work in peace. Here’s what changed.

    All seven apps move to 1.2.0 (1.3.0 for GuideExpress), with a full visual overhaul: the site’s colours, a light theme by default, a navigation column on the left instead of tabs, empty screens that tell you what to do next, and input errors shown under the field they’re about rather than in a dialog box. No more system windows getting in the way for no reason: out of 275 dialogs reviewed, only one in five deserved to stop you.

    The forge is open. Browse project code, open an issue, follow a milestone and review a merge proposal — without leaving the member area, and without an account anywhere else.

    You can fix a translation without knowing git. Settings → Translations: you propose, we review, the correction lands in the catalogue.

    Two-factor authentication is available (Settings → Security), with any TOTP app.

    And the chat gained the means to moderate itself: sanctions, exclusion, and a delay before you can post links — long enough to get to know each other.

  2. The chat gets richer

    Four conversation upgrades at once:

    • Who’s online — the number of connected members shows live.
    • Unread messages — a per-room badge marks what you haven’t seen yet.
    • Search — find a message by keyword, room or author.
    • Emoji reactions — react in one click: 👍 ❤️ 😄 🎉 🚀 👀.

  3. Public profiles

    Every username in the chat is now clickable: you reach the member’s profile — avatar, bio, join date and proposed ideas.

    Visible to members only, never open to the web. Your email address never appears there.

  4. A weekly email digest

    Every Monday, a short email recaps the past week: messages posted, new ideas, new members.

    On by default, and you can unsubscribe in one click — from the email itself or in Settings → Notifications.

  5. Open Projects Lab is open

    The member area is live: create your account, say hello in the chat, propose and vote on ideas to steer what we develop together.

    Your data stays with you — no tracker, no reselling. Welcome 👋
