Terms of use

This English text is provided for convenience. Open Projects Lab is published from France and governed by French law: in the event of any discrepancy, the French version prevails.

1. Purpose

These terms govern access to and use of the member area of Open Projects Lab (the account and the community chat), available at app.openprojectslab.com. The showcase site and software downloads require no account and are not covered here.

2. Publisher and status

The service is published by the person identified in the legal notice. It is free and run on a voluntary basis. Under French law on trust in the digital economy (LCEN), the publisher acts as a host of the content posted by members in the chat: it is not the author of that content and does not review it beforehand.

3. Access and registration

  • Registration requires a valid email address and a display name.
  • The service is restricted to adults (18 years or older).
  • An account is strictly personal. One account per person.

4. Account and security

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity carried out from your account. Tell us without delay of any unauthorised use.

5. Rules of use

Use of the member area is subject to the code of conduct, which forms an integral part of these terms. Any breach may lead to the measures set out in Article 7.

6. Content you post

  • You remain responsible for what you post (chat messages, profile, ideas) and you warrant that you have the right to post it.
  • You keep your rights to your content. You grant Open Projects Lab a non-exclusive, free and limited licence for the sole purpose of storing and displaying your messages within the service, for it to operate.
  • Contributions meant to be shared — messages posted in the chat’s public rooms, and proposed ideas — are additionally placed, as of 22 August 2026, under the Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 licence. Concretely: anyone may quote and republish them — for instance to turn them into a help or documentation page — provided they credit your username and share under the same licence. Without this clause, republishing a helpful answer would require its author’s individual written permission, and useful answers would stay locked in the thread where they were given.
  • This licence covers neither your bio nor your profile, nor messages posted before its date: a licence cannot be declared retroactively over what you wrote under different terms.
  • Deleting a message removes it from the service, but does not revoke the licence for copies already made — that is how every Creative Commons licence works, and it is more honest to tell you here than to let you find out.
  • As the chat is text only, no file is hosted on your behalf.

7. Moderation, reporting and removal

  • The publisher may remove any content contrary to these terms, the code of conduct or the law, and suspend or close an account, in a graduated manner according to severity.
  • A reporting mechanism is provided (a button on each message; failing that, the address in the legal notice).
  • In accordance with the LCEN, any manifestly unlawful content that is reported is removed promptly. The publisher retains the identification data required by law.

8. Personal data

The processing of your data is described in the privacy policy. In short: the strict minimum, no resale, no advertising.

9. Availability and liability

  • The service is provided “as is”, without any guarantee of availability, continuity or freedom from error.
  • Being free and run by a single person, it may be interrupted, limited or permanently discontinued — with reasonable notice where possible.
  • To the extent permitted by law, the publisher cannot be held liable for content posted by members, nor for any indirect harm related to use of the service.

10. Intellectual property

The software of Open Projects Lab is distributed under a free/open-source licence (see each software’s repository). The site, its visual identity and its editorial content remain the property of the publisher, unless stated otherwise.

11. Duration and termination

  • You may delete your account at any time from your settings.
  • The publisher may suspend or terminate an account in the event of a breach of these terms or the code of conduct.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may change. The dated online version prevails. Any substantial change is announced to members; continued use constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought first; failing that, the French courts have jurisdiction.
